[Former owner] Ralph Voorhees says: This 1961 Thunderbird Convertible Pace Car was purchased from Dick Tarnutzer in 2001. It is currently disassembled and being carefully restored to its original glory - it should be completed in 2005. - - - - - - - - -
Notes from the Thunderbird Registrar, November 2002:This is a 1961 Thunderbird Convertible. It was built as a 1961 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. The code "PAO 8479" refers to Pre-Approved Order #8479. It has a black vinyl interior (56), and was scheduled for production on March 21, 1961. It has Cruise-O-Matic transmission (4) and a 3.00:1 rear axle ratio (6). As of November 29, 1999 this car was owned by Dick Tarnutzer of Lake Mills, Wisconsin. At that time it had been damaged in a fire.
